Hello! Many of the blog posts you read here are written by myself; Felix. A fun fact about me is that I love Halloween, I love camp movies, and I love how well spooky season and camp go together.
So to spice up our blog posts a bit, I thought it would be nice to do something less optically related, and just plain old fun. So without further ado, here is my guide to essential Halloween viewing.
1. Death Becomes Her
This film came out in 1992. 1992! It's older than me, yet somehow Meryl Streep looks exactly the same now as she did then. This feels poetic considering the entire movie is about the L.A. obsession with glamour and youth. Death Becomes Her is criminally underrated and is the perfect Halloween movie for those who don't love horror but want something for the season. Fun fact: Meryl Streep descending a marble staircase in a turquoise tracksuit and sunglasses - in the middle of night - is also how I look going to Tesco at 11pm for a Bueno. Fabulous.
2. Clue: The Movie
Flames! Flames on the side of my face! I must admit, I rarely have time for boardgames. I'm not particularly sad about this fact. A PS5 will always be better than Monopoly, even if you are playing Monopoly on a PS5. But Clue: The Movie is special. Based on the game Cluedo (the UK name for it), this movie is a classic whodunnit. It is also completely insane. I fully believe the writers of this movie were on something when they made the script, and I love it. Released in 1985 and being completely ridiculous, it is a wonderful film that you will quote forever. I just couldn't decide if I was more Mrs. White or Mrs. Peacock.
I just relate to the insanity.
3. Beetlejuice
Is it weird that I always thought Beetlejuice was kind of cute? I'll discuss that with my therapist later. If you haven't seen the first two films on this list, I can forgive you. But if you haven't seen Beetlejuice, then I will have to ask what you have been doing. Beetlejuice (oop, that's the third time) owns black and white stripes in my opinion, and I fully believe it is one of Tim Burton's best pieces of work. I'm not entirely sure how I would even start giving a synopsis of this film. If you love Winona Ryder (everyone should) and love camp culture, then this is something you have to watch. Plus, look how cute Alec Baldwin is in it!

So there you have it. These are my top three films to watch this Halloween. Please do let me know what you think if you watch any of them. And even if you don't love Halloween as a holiday, I'm pretty sure these three films should make anyone feel a bit more spookily festive and smile.
Honourable mentions also have to go to the entire Scream franchise. They're not as campy as my top three, but very good nonetheless.
